Not ready to stop
Harm reduction counseling
Harm reduction means working on safety and on the parts of your life you care about, without requiring you to quit. You set the goals.
If someone else wanted you here
A lot of people start counseling because a parent, partner, or someone at work pushed them to. That's a fine place to start. You don't have to agree that you have a problem, What we talk about is confidential. Nothing goes back to the person who sent you without your written permission.
What harm reduction counseling covers
- Lowering the risks of the way you use now
- Overdose safety, including having naloxone (Narcan) on hand
- Fewer consequences at work, at home, and with the law
- Getting along better with the people pushing you to change
- Cutting back or stopping, if and when you decide you want to
- Case management: connecting you to MAT, treatment, housing, benefits, or court requirements when you need them
Your goals, not someone else's
Some people come in wanting to keep using and just stop losing things to it. Some want to use less. Some end up deciding to stop. All of those are your call, and the work changes as your goals do.
What stays private
Sessions are private pay, so nothing goes to an insurance company or shows up on a family plan.
